Who can participate in the Hampton Woods Swim Team?
Any family that is a member in good standing of Hampton Woods is eligible to have their child(ren) ages 5-18 join the Hampton Woods Swim Team. Likewise, Hampton Woods also welcomes swimmers from other neighborhoods so long as they are not currently registered with another Cobb Summer Swim League swim team. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the entire pool unassisted in order to qualify for the team, and must be 5 years old by May 31st.
Junior swimmers (ages 3-5) can join the Junior Hammerheads program. Information about our Junior program may be found here.
Does my swimmer need to come to practice every day?
We do not require that your swimmer attend practice daily. However, coaches will need to know how your swimmer performs in order to assign him/her to events at meets. Likewise, regular attendance at practice will help to build endurance for our longer events, such as the 100-yard events (e.g., 100 IM).
Which practice should my swimmer attend?
We have two practice groups this year for our Hammerheads.
Practice Group 1: Generally younger swimmers (5-8 years old), or those who are new to competitive swimming. The focus during these sessions will be on building endurance and learning the strokes so that swimmers can complete multiple laps in the pool.
Practice Group 2: Generally our older swimmers (9 and up) or those swimmers who are ready for additional training to compete in our longer events (100 Free and 100 IM). If your child is 7 or 8 and can swim a 50-yard (two lengths of the pool) event easily, they should be able to practice with Group 2 if needed.
Older swimmers are welcome to come to the Group 1 practice if timing is a factor (e.g., camps). Younger or less experienced swimmers are discouraged from coming to the Group 2 practice only because we will have limited numbers of coaches for more focused attention. However, if your child must level up for practice, please inform the coaches as soon as possible.
NOTE: Junior Hammerheads (ages 3-5) practice separately after school is out.
What events are included in a Cobb Summer Swim League meet?
Do I need to buy a special swim suit for meets?
For the 2026 season, all swimmers should wear either a black or royal blue swimsuit that is appropriate for meets. For girls/women, this is a one piece suit. For boys/men, this is a jammer suit (not shorts).
Per Cobb Summer Swim League rules, swimmers are not allowed to wear their club gear in swim meets.
What do I get with registration?
All Hampton Woods Hammerheads swimmers will receive a t-shirt, swim cap, and sponsor giveaways with registration. They receive six weeks of 45 minute daily practice and an end-of-season celebration.
Junior Hammerheads receive a free t-shirt and four weeks of 30-minute, daily practices, as well as an end-of-month celebration.
